Edna Ferber

From 1909 through the mid-1920s, Edna Ferber called Chicago her home. She wrote her Pulitzer Prize winning novel, So Big, while residing at the Windemere Apartments in Hyde Park. The streets, boulevards, parks and beaches of Chicago provided scenic backdrops to the comings and goings of characters in many of her early stories. Ferber’s fictional body of work gave a much needed voice to women in a male-dominated literary world.
